Cribbage JD is a timeless card game, also referred to as Crib, Cribble, or Noddy. It is a traditional multiplayer game, typically played by two players, where participants form combinations of cards to score points. A cribbage board is utilized to track the points throughout the game.
Scoring
The Starter
The player seated to the dealer\'s left cuts the remaining deck (leaving at least four cards), and the dealer reveals the top card, known as the \"starter\" or \"cut,\" placing it face-up on top of the deck. It’s important to note that peeking at any other cards in the deck is prohibited during this step. If the starter card is a Jack, the dealer earns two points for \"his heels,\" commonly referred to as \"his nibs\" or simply \"nibs.\" The game may conclude if the dealer cuts a Jack.
The Play (Pegging)
In addition to scoring one or two points for the last card played, players earn points by following these rules:
- Fifteen-twos: Two points for a total of exactly fifteen (\"fifteen-two\").
- Runs: Points are awarded for completing runs of consecutive cards. Three points for a run of three cards, regardless of their order (e.g., 6, 4, 5 counts as a valid run).
- Four points for a run of four consecutive cards.
- Five points for a run of five consecutive cards.
- Six points for a run of six consecutive cards.
- Seven points for a run of seven consecutive cards (e.g., playing 2, 4, 6, A, 3, 5, and 7).
- Pairs: Two points for a pair of cards with the same rank as the previously played card.
- Six points for a \"pair royal\" (three cards of the same rank, also called \"trips\").
- Twelve points for a \"double pair royal\" (four cards of the same rank, also referred to as \"quads\").
The Show
Once the play phase ends, each player calculates their score based on the cards in their hand. Starting with the player to the dealer\'s left, players lay out their cards and tally points based on these four cards plus the starter card:
- Fifteen-twos: Two points for each combination of two or more cards totaling exactly fifteen.
- Runs: Three points for a run of three consecutive cards (irrespective of suit).
- Four points for a run of four consecutive cards.
- Five points for a run of five consecutive cards.
- Pairs: Two points for a pair of matching cards.
- Six points for a \"pair royal\" (three cards of the same rank, meaning three distinct pairs).
- Twelve points for a \"double pair royal\" (four cards of the same rank, meaning six distinct pairs).
- Flush: Four points for a flush where all four hand cards are of the same suit. An additional point is awarded if the starter card is also of that suit.
- One point for holding the Jack that matches the starter card\'s suit (\"one for his nob\" or \"his nobs\").
- The crib, unlike the dealer\'s hand, cannot score a four-card flush, but it can score a five-card flush if the starter card matches the suit of the hand.
